Our Waste - Our World

North Americans are the largest per capita generators of waste on our planet. We produce over 350 million tonnes of garbage annually and the amount grows every year.

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Management.

Four words that trigger spirited professional, political, family and societal debates about how to best manage the MSW we all generate. This dynamic isn't changing. What is different is this debate must now fully consider the compelling arguments related to the inherent resource value in MSW that can be mined to create community based renewable energy.

The reality is that every North American generates MSW, everyday. Combined with the fact that fugitive methane (a 21 times more potent GHG emission than carbon) escape from the landfilling of MSW is the number one human source makes it a global, societal responsibility to be more intelligent about MSW Management.

The renewable energy opportunity is significant and to capitalize on it requires us to rethink our traditional practices as we endeavour to tackle the MSW management challenge while managing to the myriad of environmental risks our society faces, such as air & water quality and climate change.
